About Us

The Newbury Chamber Choir is a group with up to 40 active members and performs major concerts with an orchestra three of four times a year.  In the summer we give concerts in villages around the Newbury area.  We have members covering a wide span of ages, occasionally with parents and their offspring in the choir.

Our main focus is European Sacred Choral music but we do like to explore other composers from different periods.   We usually perform in the original language, which can be interesting and challenging!  Our Musical Director is Edward Lambert, a professional choral trainer and composer who joined us in September 2002.

The choir has its own chamber organ which we use to accompany the soloists or the choir in quieter items.

We also encourage local young instrumentalists by bringing them into the orchestra and we involve current and previous members of the Hampshire and West Berkshire Youth Orchestras.

As a registered charity we are a non-profit making organisation and perform mostly in churches and this enables us to make them a donation. Our costs are kept to a minimum but our policy is to use good soloists (including those in the choir) and to provide an orchestra for the larger choral works.
